A jug fills drop by drop

I will be honest, I already posted this on facebook, but i would still love to share this to my hopefully eventual followers! This is my writing and analyses, so…enjoy! :)

Lord Buddha has filled this world with wisdom. Now i am not a buddhist, but wise words are hard to ignore no matter where they come from. A few months ago, I came across this beautiful quote by Lord Buddha, he said, ‘a jug fills frop by drop’. At first I only knew that it was a profound saying but I had not grasped its meaning yet. After a lot of pondering, I now only begin to comprehend what this could possibly mean.

At one level, it preaches patience, clearly represented by the drops. Drops slowly drip to into the jug, giving a sense of time. If patience is practiced, the jug will be filled, nothing will be impossible! With patience also comes hope. Buddha possibly means, be patient, be hopeful, your will  will eventually fulfill your wishes. Another dimension:  to  never give up. If you keep at it, you will gain your wishes.

However, these drops can represent a whole new perspective. What if the drops are our thoughts and the jug our mind? Perhaps Buddha implies that we should be careful of which thoughts we put in our mind, as it may feel infinite but the ‘jug’ will eventually  fill up. Unnecessary thoughts may block our clarity and prevent reacching enlightenment.

Enlightenment! Buddha has always been associated with enlightenment and therefore this quote also boils down to that. In the end, it is very possible that enlightenemnt is a slow process that  needs subtle control of our mind, as the jug fills drop by drop.
